This was a custom ring designed for a client who is self described as a schizophrenic. He explained to me that his life felt like having been lead by a snake with two heads. I’ve known this gentleman for several years, he has commissioned three or four major pieces and he has always managed to bring out some of my best work. We designed this ring which shows the snake curling around the band from right to left and bisecting around a large Almandine Garnet. There are several tremendous features of which to take note. The first is the snakeskin texture which is created painstakingly, scale by scale with a beading tool. This tool is a small handheld punch with a hemispherical indentation which creates a raised hemispherical mark with each impression. By layering these impressions one by one, side by side, a wonderful rich textural tapestry is created. I am also very pleased with the heads of the two sister snakes. One of which has the floor and is speaking, the other calmly listening to the lies flowing across the silver. I have no idea what the wording is meant to say, I believe it to be speaking in tongues.
